Trip Highlights – Culture & Nature in Aït Bougumez

Discover the Aït Bougumez Valley, famously known as The Happy Valley, nestled in the Central High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. This peaceful destination offers breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and authentic rural life.

First, explore lush valleys, high pastures, and scenic mountain trails. These accessible hikes suit families, nature lovers, and travelers seeking gentle adventure. Walking paths connect traditional Berber villages, revealing timeless architecture and daily mountain life.

Next, learn about ancestral water-management systems. Local communities have captured and shared water for centuries using ingenious irrigation channels. As a result, the valley remains fertile and green throughout the seasons.

Then, visit historic fortified granaries, known locally as igoudar. The emblematic Sidi Moussa granary stands as a symbol of collective organization, resilience, and cooperation in the High Atlas.

In addition, discover prehistoric dinosaur footprints at Aguerd n’Ouzrou and Ibaklioun. These rare geological sites add a fascinating scientific dimension to the journey.

Afterward, walk through terraced fields and mountain orchards. Apple trees, walnut groves, and barley fields shape a landscape crafted by generations of farmers. Traditional earthen houses blend naturally into the environment.

Furthermore, meet local communities and village associations, including a meaningful exchange with a development association in R’bat village. These encounters highlight community-based tourism and shared cultural values.

Enjoy authentic Berber cuisine, with home-cooked meals prepared by local families. Picnic lunches in scenic locations enhance the experience.

The journey also includes a stop at the spectacular Ouzoud Waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in Morocco. Surrounded by olive groves, this site is home to Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.

Finally, experience a guided cultural visit of Marrakech, exploring monuments, souks, medina streets, and the iconic Jemaa el-Fna Square. Stay in traditional guesthouses and riads, combining comfort, authenticity, and warm Moroccan hospitality.

Above all, this trip promotes responsible tourism, supporting sustainable development in the High Atlas Mountains.
