🚗 Day 1 Arrival in Marrakech
🚗 15 minutes transfer

Upon arrival at Marrakech Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel or riad. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy free time to explore the vibrant city of Marrakech. Wander through the bustling souks, admire the impressive architecture of the medina, or simply relax and soak up the unique atmosphere of the Red City. Your guide will be available throughout your stay to provide assistance and recommendations.

🥾 Day 2 Marrakech to Id Ait Aissa

After breakfast, we depart by vehicle toward the High Atlas Mountains. Passing through Asni, we arrive at Aguersioual, where we meet our mule team and begin our trek. The trail gradually climbs above walnut groves and traditional mountain settlements while offering magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and passes. Crossing the Tizi Oudit Pass, we enter the beautiful Azaden Valley, renowned for its traditional Berber villages and spectacular mountain scenery. We continue at a relaxed pace alongside the mule caravan until reaching the village of Id Ait Aissa, nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Atlas Mountains.

🏔 Day 3 Id Ait Aissa to Tamsoulte Pastures to Lepiney Refuge

Today's trek follows the valley floor through a living cultural landscape where local inhabitants continue to cultivate terraced fields using traditional methods passed down through generations. The trail winds through walnut groves, juniper forests, ancient irrigation systems and picturesque adobe villages painted in beautiful red and ochre tones. We pass through the charming Berber village of Tizi Oussem before ascending toward the high summer pastures of Tamsoulte. In the afternoon we visit the famous Ighouliden Waterfalls at 2,350 metres, the highest waterfalls in the Toubkal Massif, plunging nearly 50 metres down a dramatic rock face. After a refreshing break, we continue our ascent toward the Lepiney Refuge at approximately 3,000 metres, where magnificent views over the High Atlas await.

Day 4 Lepiney Refuge to Aguelzim Pass to Toubkal Base Camp

After breakfast, we continue our ascent through a spectacular alpine environment. The trail climbs steadily toward the Aguelzim Pass, one of the finest viewpoints in the Toubkal region. Along the way we enjoy breathtaking panoramas over the surrounding peaks, many of which rise above 4,000 metres. From the pass, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as Mount Toubkal comes into view. We descend slightly to reach the Toubkal Base Camp at approximately 3,100 metres, where we settle into the refuge and prepare for the summit ascent scheduled for the following morning.

An early start allows us to make the most of the day and enjoy the finest conditions for the ascent. The trail climbs steadily above the refuge through rocky terrain, scree slopes and a broad mountain valley framed by impressive peaks. The final ridge gradually leads to the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 metres, the highest peak in North Africa. The reward is extraordinary ; a breathtaking 360 degree panorama over the High Atlas Mountains, the Marrakech Plain and, on exceptionally clear days, distant views toward the Sahara Desert. After time to enjoy the summit and take photographs, we descend back to the refuge.

🌿 Day 6 Toubkal Base Camp to Imlil

After breakfast, we begin our descent through the Ait Mizane Valley. Along the way we pass Sidi Chamharouch, an important pilgrimage site and spiritual landmark in the Atlas Mountains. The route then continues through terraced fields, orchards and traditional Berber settlements. The contrast between the rugged high mountain environment and the fertile valleys below is remarkable. We arrive in Imlil, the gateway village to Toubkal National Park, where we spend the night in a comfortable guesthouse.

🚐 Day 7 Imlil to Marrakech

After breakfast, transfer back to Marrakech. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to explore Marrakech independently. Discover the lively souks filled with handicrafts, spices, textiles and jewellery. Visit iconic landmarks such as the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque and the UNESCO listed medina. For a quieter experience, enjoy a visit to the famous Majorelle Garden. In the evening, Jemaa el-Fna square comes alive with musicians, storytellers, acrobats and food stalls, creating one of Morocco's most memorable cultural experiences.

Day 8 Departure Day

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some final free time in Marrakech. You may choose to visit the Saadian Tombs, El Badi Palace or enjoy some last minute shopping in the medina. A traditional Moroccan hammam can also be a relaxing way to conclude your journey. Transfer to Marrakech Airport for your departure flight.

Fitness Level Required

This trek is rated moderate to challenging. Good physical condition is required. Although the ascent of Mount Toubkal does not require technical climbing skills, participants should be prepared for several consecutive days of hiking and high altitude conditions. Mountain weather can change rapidly and temperatures vary significantly between day and night.

Accommodation and Mule Support

Two nights in a comfortable hotel or riad in Marrakech bookend the trip. On trek you will stay in a simple mountain guesthouse, the Lepiney Refuge or tents, the Toubkal Refuge or tents, and a guesthouse in Imlil. Your main luggage, maximum 12 kilograms, is transported by mules throughout, so you only carry a light daypack during the day's hike.
