Over eight days you will trek through Amazigh villages nestled in the lush Ammeln Valley, climb the summit of Jebel Lekst at 2,260 metres with its extraordinary views, visit the famous painted rocks of Jean Vérame, and walk through ancient gorges, palm groves and almond forests with your certified Amazigh guide.
This is a Level 4 trek, averaging 6 hours of walking per day with 700 to 1,000 metres of elevation gain. Trekking poles are strongly recommended. The climate is mild year-round, making Tafraout one of the most comfortable trekking destinations in Morocco whatever the season.

A lush green oasis dotted with traditional Amazigh villages, nestled at the foot of the granite mountains. The contrast between the fertile valley floor and the dramatic rocky peaks above is one of the most beautiful sights in southern Morocco.

An open air artwork blending nature and human creativity in a stunning setting. The Belgian artist Jean Vérame painted enormous boulders in vivid blues, reds and whites in the 1980s, creating one of the most surprising and memorable sights in Morocco.
Wildlife and Summit Views
From the summit of Jebel Lekst at 2,260 metres, breathtaking panoramic views stretch over the Anti-Atlas, the High Atlas, Siroua, the Great South and Tafraout. The massif is one of the last places in Morocco where Cuvier's gazelles can still be spotted in the wild.

Itinerary

Arrival in Agadir by flight. Welcome by your guide, transfer and check in at the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy free time for a walk in the city or along the beach.
Early morning departure toward the Tafraout region. The road gradually climbs above Ait Melloul, crossing the argan tree plateaus of Ait Baha and passing through small villages. Start of the hike from the village of Ait Lhaj, through wheat fields and argan forests. Arrival at Agadir Ikhssaine village, offering panoramic views over the entire Ait Moussa palm grove. Descent via switchbacks to the lodge. In the afternoon, exploration of the lush and peaceful Ait Moussa oasis. Overnight in a guesthouse.
Morning walk through cultivated fields before leaving the palm grove along a panoramic trail overlooking the Angrf Valley. After about one hour of ascent, we reach the village of Ait Moussa Oulahcen, with beautiful views over wild gorges where banana trees grow. We then cross the Timzguida Pass at 550 metres, meaning mosque in Berber. A second ascent leads to the village of Aghrighre, known for its traditional Anti-Atlas architecture. Descent into stunning gorges for a picnic under palm trees, then continuation along the gorges to the palm grove of Targa n'Touchka.
After leaving Targa n'Touchka, we ascend through a narrow gorge, cross a pass at 730 metres and descend into the Imzi Valley, where almond trees survive despite the arid climate. We walk through the wild gorges of Tagdichte before climbing to the Tikki Pass at 1,300 metres. Descent to the spectacular village of Inzguaren, dramatically perched on the cliffs. Overnight in a local guesthouse.
After a hearty breakfast, a beautiful descent to the Assif Azguezaw river. Do not forget to count the stone stairways built by warriors during the era of tribal conflicts. A steady ascent of about 2.5 hours through olive and argan trees leads to the Tizi n'Tlgout Pass at 1,520 metres, where we enjoy lunch at the foot of the cliffs. Continuation through the valley to reach the guesthouse in Ait Iften at 1,500 metres, at the foot of Jebel Lekst.
Ascent via the shepherds trail, barely marked, winding through holm oak forests, high altitude meadows and rocky spurs. With some luck and discretion, you may spot Cuvier's gazelles, which still inhabit this massif. From the summit at 2,260 metres, breathtaking panoramic views extend over the Anti-Atlas, the High Atlas, Siroua, the Great South and Tafraout. After the ascent, a beautiful descent leads to Anergui, where you spend the night in a charming local guesthouse.
After a magnificent descent, we reach the Ammeln Valley before transferring to Tafraout. Enjoy time to stroll through this friendly town where houses blend harmoniously with the pink granite landscape, almond trees, argan trees and palm groves. We then drive across the Souss Plain back to Agadir. Overnight at the hotel with a free evening.
Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy free time in Agadir before transfer to Agadir Airport for your return flight.
Fitness Level and Difficulty
This is a Level 4 trek. Expect an average of 6 hours walking per day, on and off trail, with 700 to 1,000 metres of elevation gain per day and 15 to 18 kilometres covered. Some sections cross rocky terrain that can be demanding on joints ; trekking poles are strongly recommended. Good physical condition and previous hiking experience are required.
Accommodation
Two nights in Agadir are spent in a comfortable hotel close to the beach and restaurants. Nights 2 to 6 on trek are in simple but comfortable traditional guesthouses with dormitories or shared rooms. Single rooms are not available on trek nights. Your main luggage is transported by vehicle ; you carry only a daypack.
