Upon arrival at Marrakech Airport, your guide welcomes you and transfers you to your hotel. The afternoon is free to explore Marrakech ; wander the souks, visit the Koutoubia Mosque and make your way to the legendary Djemaa el-Fna square as the evening comes alive. Over dinner, your guide will give a full briefing on the trek ahead.

After an early breakfast we drive northeast through the Central High Atlas foothills via Demnate. We meet our mule team at Ait Boulli, then begin the trek, ascending through red-earth villages, walnut groves and terraced fields. We arrive at Rouguelte at 1,900 metres and set up our first camp near the village.

A long and rewarding day through dramatic scenery. We hike through gorges and past shepherd huts along the Assif n'Ait Ahmed river, climbing to the Tizi n'Rougoult pass at 2,900 metres. The descent provides some of the finest panoramas of the trek, with Central High Atlas ridges stretching in every direction. Camp tonight is in Idoughmamen among ancient juniper trees, with the M'Goun peaks beginning to dominate the skyline.

The Assdrem trail leads us to the high plateaus at the foot of M'Goun, where sinkholes and caves served as nomadic shelters for centuries. The Ait Atta travel here from the Jebel Saghro each summer with flocks of sheep and camels. Camp tonight is on the beautiful short-grass meadows near the Tessaout springs at 2,900 metres, dominated by the M'Goun ridge rising directly above ; tomorrow's summit is clearly visible in the late afternoon light.

The summit day and the most demanding stage. We start before first light to follow the long limestone ridge of Ighil M'Goun, rich in fossilised marine shells, to the summit at 4,068 metres. The view from the top encompasses the entire Central High Atlas, Toubkal to the west, the Dades Valley and Jebel Saghro to the south, and the Draa hamada stretching into the distance. We descend via the Oumsoud Pass to camp at Izabine at 2,600 metres. Those who prefer not to attempt the summit can follow the mule handlers directly to camp by an alternative route.

The final trekking day crosses the Tizi n'Ait Boualli pass at 2,850 metres. The descent winds through gorges past troglodytic cliff houses to the beautiful village of Arouss, then down into the Bouguemez Valley, the Happy Valley of the Berbers, with its terraced fields and walnut orchards. We arrive in the village of Agouti for our final night in a traditional guesthouse, a warm and comfortable end to five days in the mountains.

After a final traditional Berber breakfast in Agouti, we drive back to Marrakech via the Azilal region, with lunch provided en route. We arrive by early afternoon with the rest of the day free to explore Marrakech ; the Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Garden, or simply the souks and Djemaa el-Fna coming alive in the evening. Dinner tonight is free at any restaurant of your choice in Marrakech.

After breakfast your guide arranges your transfer to Marrakech Airport. Depending on your flight, there may be a final morning to explore the city. Should you wish to extend your stay, we can arrange additional nights in Marrakech or a continuation to Essaouira, the Sahara or the Dades Valley.
