Morocco Family Adventure
Nine Days Built Around Your Family

Morocco is one of the most extraordinary destinations in the world for families. Moroccan culture holds children in the highest regard and a family traveling here opens doors and receives warmth that no adult group ever would. This nine-day journey is designed specifically around the rhythms, curiosity and energy of a family traveling together, with three very different landscapes and experiences woven into a single private adventure.

Three nights in Marrakech introduce the family to Morocco at a relaxed pace. Two nights in the Imlil Valley bring everyone into the High Atlas for a Berber hiking day with mules and lunch with a local family. One night at the Agafay Desert camp for camel riding and stargazing. Two final nights in Essaouira on the Atlantic for beach days and the medina.

Every element is private. Your vehicle, your guide and your programme are entirely your own. The pace is always set by your family and we are experienced in adapting every day to suit children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers.

Why This Journey

Trip
Highlights

What makes this nine-day private family journey through Morocco one of the most complete and memorable family travel experiences available.

๐Ÿ•Œ

Marrakech for Families

Three nights in Marrakech give the family time to genuinely discover the city. The souks, a cooking class, a carriage ride, the Majorelle Garden and the nightly spectacle of Djemaa el-Fna create a rich introduction to Morocco that children and adults remember equally.

๐Ÿ”

Hiking in Imlil with Mules

A full day hiking through Berber villages and walnut groves of the Imlil Valley, with mules to carry bags when needed. The trail is adapted to the pace and age of your children, making this a genuine mountain experience for all.

๐Ÿฝ

Lunch with a Local Berber Family

One of the most memorable experiences of the entire journey. A mountain village family welcomes you into their home for a freshly prepared traditional Moroccan lunch. Children are particularly welcomed and the warmth of the encounter stays with families long after they return home.

๐Ÿช

Camel Ride and Desert Night at Agafay

The Agafay Desert is a rocky stone plateau just 30 minutes from Marrakech. A sunset camel ride brings the family to a comfortable desert camp for the night, with dinner under the stars and the extraordinary dark skies of the pre-Saharan landscape.

๐ŸŒŠ

Essaouira, the Atlantic and the Beach

Two nights in Essaouira end the journey on the Atlantic. The medina is one of the most relaxed in Morocco. The beach is long and wild, and the harbour, blue fishing boats and sea ramparts create one of the most beautiful townscapes in North Africa.

๐ŸจDay 1Arrival in Marrakech
🚗 15 minutes transfer

Upon arrival at Marrakech Airport, your guide welcomes the family and transfers you to your family-friendly riad in the medina. The afternoon is free to settle in and let the children absorb the colours and sounds of Morocco for the first time. A gentle walk to Djemaa el-Fna at sunset makes a perfect introduction ; snake charmers, musicians, fresh orange juice and the extraordinary energy of one of the world's great public squares.

๐Ÿ•ŒDay 2Marrakech : Medina, Souks and Family Discoveries

A full day exploring Marrakech with your private guide at a family pace. Begin at the Koutoubia Mosque before entering the covered souks where children delight in the dye quarter, spice stalls and the craft of the coppersmiths. Visit the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs. In the afternoon, a horse-drawn carriage ride around the medina ramparts ; children love it and the pace is perfect for taking everything in. End at Djemaa el-Fna with fresh orange juice watching the acrobats as the sky turns pink.

๐ŸณDay 3Marrakech : Cooking Class, Majorelle Garden and Free Time

A morning family cooking class in a riad kitchen. Your guide takes everyone to the souks to select spices and herbs, then back to the kitchen where a local cook teaches the family to make a classic Moroccan tagine and sweet pastry desserts. Children are always the most enthusiastic cooks. After lunch, visit the extraordinary Majorelle Garden with its cobalt-blue buildings and vivid colours. The afternoon is free for the riad pool, independent exploration or a bike ride in the Palmeraie.

๐Ÿ”Day 4Marrakech to Imlil Valley
🚗 1.5 hours transfer

After breakfast we head into the High Atlas Mountains, climbing through the Ourika and Mizane valleys with dramatic views of terraced fields and snowy peaks. We arrive in Imlil at 1,740 metres and check in to our guesthouse. The afternoon is free for a gentle walk around the village, meeting local Berber residents and letting the children adjust to the altitude and the extraordinary fresh mountain air. The calm of Imlil is a perfect contrast to Marrakech.

๐ŸฅพDay 5Imlil Valley : Full Day Family Hike with Mules and Berber Lunch
4 to 5 hours walking at family pace

The highlight of the mountain section. Mules are loaded at the guesthouse to carry bags and tired legs, making this inclusive for children of all ages. The trail climbs gently through the village of Aroumd with extraordinary valley views, children greeted warmly at every hamlet. At midday we arrive at a Berber family home for a freshly prepared traditional lunch ; salads, fresh bread, vegetable tagine and mint tea. The warmth of the welcome and the shared meal around a low table is one of those travel moments families carry home forever. After lunch the mules bring everyone back down to Imlil gently.

๐ŸชDay 6Imlil to Agafay Desert : Camel Ride and Desert Camp
🚗 2 hours transfer

After breakfast in Imlil we drive to the Agafay Desert, a vast rocky plateau just 30 minutes from Marrakech that feels completely apart. In the late afternoon the family mounts camels for a sunset ride to your camp. Younger children can ride with a parent or walk alongside. Arriving as the sky turns orange and purple, dinner is served under the stars around a fire with the extraordinary silence of the desert all around. One of the simplest and most powerful nights of the entire journey.

๐ŸŒŠDay 7Agafay to Essaouira
🚗 3 hours transfer

After breakfast at camp we drive west to the Atlantic Coast, passing through the extraordinary argan forests of the Haha region with stops to watch the famous argan-climbing goats. We arrive in Essaouira, the beautiful blue and white walled city on the Atlantic, in time for a first gentle walk through the medina and along the ocean ramparts. Essaouira is one of the most relaxed and family-friendly medinas in Morocco.

๐Ÿ–Day 8Essaouira : Beach, Medina and Atlantic Exploration

A free day at whatever pace suits your family. The morning is perfect for the beach ; the long wild Atlantic beach stretches south for kilometres, the sand golden and the air fresh even in summer. Children can build sandcastles, bodyboard or run freely. In the afternoon, explore the medina with its blue doorways, craft workshops and extraordinary harbour where fishing boats bob against the ancient sea walls. Browse the Thuya wood workshops and visit the fish market. In the evening, a final Atlantic sunset from the ramparts above the ocean.

โœˆDay 9Departure from Essaouira or Marrakech
🚗 transfer to airport

After breakfast your guide arranges your transfer to the airport. If flying from Marrakech, the drive takes approximately two and a half hours through the beautiful argan forests. If flying from Casablanca, approximately three and a half hours north with Atlantic views along the way. We can arrange additional nights in Essaouira or a final night back in Marrakech if you wish to extend.

Fitness and Activity Levels

This journey is accessible for families with children of all ages. The most active day is the Imlil hike, four to five hours at a gentle family pace with mules available throughout and no steep or technical sections. Everything else requires no particular fitness. The pace on every single day is set entirely by your family.

Accommodation

In Marrakech, a family-friendly riad with a pool and family suites. In Imlil, a comfortable mountain guesthouse with garden and home-cooked Berber meals. The Agafay camp provides comfortable tented accommodation with beds. In Essaouira, a riad or boutique hotel close to both the medina and the beach, chosen for space and family comfort.

Morocco Welcomes Families Like Nowhere Else

Moroccan culture places children at the very centre of social life. A family traveling here receives a warmth and openness that no group of adults ever would. Shop owners offer children mint tea, village families invite little ones in to meet the animals, and the shared meals of this journey create connections that stay with children long after they grow up. We have been guiding families through Morocco for over 20 years.
