The Summits of
the High Atlas
The High Atlas Mountains rise to 4,167 metres at the summit of Toubkal, the highest point in North Africa and the second highest on the African continent. But these mountains are far more than a single summit. They are a world of hidden valleys, ancient Amazigh Berber villages built from clay and stone, terraced fields of saffron and walnut trees, and paths that only the local guides know. The silence up here is the kind that is very hard to find anywhere in the modern world.
We have been guiding private mountain treks in the High Atlas for over 20 years. Our certified bilingual guides were born in these mountains and know every path, every family and every season. They know which valley to take when the main route is crowded, which guesthouse serves the best harira soup on a cold morning, and exactly where to stand to see the sun hit the summit of Toubkal at dawn. Every trek is designed around your fitness level, the time you have and what interests you most.
For those who want to summit Toubkal, we allow two full days of acclimatisation in the Imlil Valley before the ascent. We stay at the Neltner Refuge at 3,207 metres the night before the summit push and reach the top before any other trekking group has left base camp. For those who prefer valley trekking over summit climbing, the Mgoun Massif crossing is one of the great multi-day walks in North Africa: five days through valleys where no road has ever reached and where Berber life continues as it has for centuries.
