Best Time to Visit MoroccoA Month by Month Guide
Morocco is a year-round destination, but the experience changes dramatically depending on when you go. After 25 years guiding travelers through every season, I can tell you that the month you choose matters as much as the places you visit. Here is what I tell every traveler who asks me when to come.
The short answer is this: October, November, March and April are the best months for most travelers. But the longer answer depends on where you are going, what you want to do and what kind of weather you are comfortable with. Morocco is a big country with very different climates across its regions, and the best time for a Sahara desert trip is not the same as the best time for a trek in the Atlas Mountains.
Here is the year month by month so you can make the right choice for your trip.
Month by Month
Cold but beautiful
The mountains are snow-capped, the cities are quiet and prices are low. Marrakech days are mild and sunny. Desert nights drop below freezing.
Almond blossom season
The almond orchards around Tafraout bloom pink and white. One of the most beautiful and least known things to see in Morocco.
Excellent
Warm and comfortable across the country. Spring flowers in the valleys. The Sahara is at its most pleasant. One of the two best months.
Best month
Perfect conditions everywhere. Warm days, cool nights, rose harvest in the Dades Valley, green Atlas. If you can only come once, come in April.
Very good
Still excellent in the mountains and north. The desert starts warming but evenings remain pleasant. Crowds begin to build at popular sites.
Getting hot
Cities and the desert become very warm. The Atlantic coast and northern Morocco remain pleasant. Good for Chefchaouen and Essaouira.
Very hot
Marrakech reaches 42°C. The Sahara regularly hits 45°C. Not recommended for desert or city tours. The coast is the only comfortable option.
Hottest month
The most popular month for Europeans but the worst for heat. Avoid the Sahara and Marrakech. Stick to the coast or Atlas villages above 2,000m.
Improving fast
Heat eases from mid-September. Date harvest in the south. Good for adventurous travelers willing to accept some warmth for lower prices.
Best month
Widely considered the single best month to visit Morocco. Perfect temperatures, golden light, crowds gone. Book early for October.
Excellent
Still warm during the day, cool at night. The Sahara is at its most dramatic in November light. Atlas trekking season is at its peak.
Quiet and beautiful
Cities are uncrowded and festive. Days are mild and sunny in Marrakech. Snow in the High Atlas. Desert nights very cold but stars are extraordinary.

The Two Best Times to Visit
Autumn
October and November. The light is golden. Summer crowds are gone. Temperatures are perfect across every region. The Sahara dunes glow amber at sunset. The Atlas valleys are green. October is the month I recommend to anyone without hesitation. Book early as it fills fast.
Spring
March and April. The country is at its most colorful. Wildflowers in the Atlas, rose harvest in the Dades Valley, almond blossom in the south. The Sahara is warm but not yet hot. Perfect for combining a city tour with a desert trip and a mountain excursion all in one journey.
Winter is Underrated
December to February is beautiful and uncrowded. Marrakech days are mild and sunny. Prices drop significantly. The Sahara nights are very cold but the skies are extraordinarily clear. If you do not mind packing a warm jacket, winter is a wonderful time to visit Morocco with far fewer travelers around you.
What About Ramadan?
Ramadan is a question many travelers ask and most guidebooks get wrong. Traveling during Ramadan can be a beautiful experience if you approach it with respect and curiosity. The medinas come alive after sunset. The food at iftar is extraordinary. The atmosphere in the evenings is warm and communal in a way that is impossible to find at any other time of year.
Some restaurants close during the day and alcohol is not served in many places during this period. But most tourist sites remain open and your experience with local people will be richer and more personal than at any other time. Ramadan dates shift by around 10 days each year. Check the dates for your travel year and decide based on your own comfort level.
A Note on School Holidays
Marrakech and the main tourist sites get very busy during French, Spanish and British school holidays particularly in February, April, July, August and the last two weeks of December. If you are flexible on dates, avoiding these peak periods means quieter medinas, easier restaurant reservations and lower prices on accommodation.
The sweet spots are mid-October to mid-November, January and early February, and mid-September. These are when Morocco feels most like itself.
The question is not really when to visit Morocco. The question is what kind of experience you want. If you want empty desert dunes and golden Atlas light, come in October or November. If you want spring color without the summer heat, come in March or April. There is no wrong answer. Only the answer that fits your trip.
How to Plan Around the Best Time
